The "Slow Sand Biological Filter" is designed to provide a low cost solution to water filtration.

1. The Biological Filter is designed to use locally available materials.  It supports a biological ecosystem called "Zooglea Film." For easy maintenance, it has also been designed to trap solids in the top 5 centimeters.  

A "UV Zap Chamber" is made from PVC pipe and components that are locally available. 

2. With the above design, either AC or DC current can be used to run the 15 watt florescent light inside the chamber.  

Using this ultra violet light source, (the 235.7 nm range) DNA linkage of harmful bacteria is broken and reproduction is made impossible.  The water can be consumed without the threat of diarrhea or other more dangerous bacteria induced side effects.
